MetaMask Goes Multichain: One Wallet, All Chains — EVM, Solana, and Soon Bitcoin

October 27, 2025 — New York, USA — In a landmark development for the Web3 ecosystem, MetaMask, the world’s most widely used crypto wallet, has gone multichain, adding support for Solana alongside all EVM-compatible blockchains, and confirming that Bitcoin integration is in active development.

This evolution positions MetaMask as the first mainstream crypto wallet to offer native access across Ethereum, Solana, and Bitcoin from a single account — a long-awaited milestone that could unify fragmented blockchain experiences for millions of users.

MetaMask Becomes the Universal Web3 Wallet

The update, rolled out by ConsenSys, introduces a redesigned wallet engine capable of seamlessly switching between EVM networks (Ethereum, Polygon, BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Avalanche, and others) and Solana’s runtime architecture without external plugins.

Users can now:

  • View and manage Solana-based SPL tokens directly inside MetaMask.
  • Interact with Solana dApps like Jupiter, PhantomSwap, and Magic Eden.
  • Swap between EVM and Solana assets through integrated bridges.

ConsenSys also confirmed that Bitcoin support is next, with testnet integration expected in early 2026. The move aims to simplify cross-chain workflows and bring the original cryptocurrency into the same interface as Ethereum and Solana.

“This is the start of the next era for MetaMask — a truly unified multichain identity,” said Dan Finlay, co-founder of MetaMask. “Users shouldn’t have to think about chains; they should just connect, transact, and explore Web3.”

Why Solana?

MetaMask’s expansion into Solana marks a strategic shift in how wallet infrastructure is evolving. For years, Solana operated largely within its own ecosystem — with Phantom as its dominant wallet.

By bridging Solana and EVM environments, MetaMask is blurring the boundaries between ecosystems, allowing developers to reach users across multiple chains from a single dApp interface.

Industry analysts say the move could accelerate liquidity flow between Solana and Ethereum, helping Solana onboard new capital from DeFi and NFT traders accustomed to EVM tools.

Bitcoin Support: The Final Frontier

While Solana integration is already live, Bitcoin is next in line.
MetaMask engineers revealed that they are building native Bitcoin wallet functionality — including Taproot and Lightning Network support — without relying on wrapped tokens or third-party custodians.

This means users will be able to send, receive, and eventually use Bitcoin in Web3 dApps via Layer-2 bridges or smart contract wrappers.

“The walls between ecosystems are coming down,” said Joe Lubin, ConsenSys founder and Ethereum co-founder. “MetaMask will be the universal portal to decentralized finance and digital identity, no matter the chain.”

Industry Reactions

The update has been met with strong approval from developers and the broader crypto community.
Phantom Wallet’s CTO, while acknowledging MetaMask’s move, said the competition will “push innovation and improve user experience across all wallets.”

On social media, Solana and Ethereum developers praised the integration, noting that it will make onboarding new users easier and simplify multichain dApp design.

MetaMask now serves over 45 million monthly active users, and this multichain expansion could extend its dominance even further.

What’s Next

MetaMask’s roadmap includes:

  • Bitcoin mainnet support in 2026
  • Unified NFT galleries across Solana and Ethereum
  • Built-in cross-chain swaps powered by MetaMask Bridges
  • Enhanced privacy controls and AI-powered fraud detection

The wallet’s transformation reflects the industry’s ongoing push toward interoperability and simplicity, bridging once-isolated blockchain ecosystems into a single, cohesive user experience.
